Welby was a friendly marine engine expert and a fixture of the Tauranga waterfront. He gave us banana sandwiches with tea, helped with boat repairs, and sold us stuff from his secondhand shop. Here he is cooking Tuatuas (small shellfish) for us at his favorite beach campground.
